After years saying that I want to see the movie that from the book by Tracy Chevallier gave life to the story behind this famous painting by Johannes van der Meer, yesterday I had the opportunity to see something different: a documentary about the real painting, its secrets and its new home, the Mauritshius Museum in The Hague.
It is part of a series of documentaries dedicated to arts and exhibitions such has the Hermitage, the Vatican Museums, Matisse, Van Gogh, Rembrandt and the Impressionists.
I really enjoyed this work because it really allows you to focus on the work of art and you can have an insight on the work but also on the life of the author, the life in the period in which the masterpiece was created and also an insight on how a museum works and how exhibitions are created.
I really enjoyed the documentary and I really appreciated that it is shown in the cinemas because you don’t have all the distractions you have when you are home watching the TV. I think this is a very useful mean to explain art and to allow people to understand it better.
Now I look forward to the Rembrandt documentary that will be shown on the 10th of February.
